The Power Of A Smile
What is Success?
Success defined in today’s world is this, big car, big house, big bank account. Do you agree? We are groomed from birth to adults this is what success looks like. I think back now how did I pick up this definition of success. Through watching TV, reading books, family, friends, teachers, or co-workers we are taught that having a lot of things such as having a really expensive car, or having a high paying job is being successful. My parents never sat down with me or my brothers to really define what is success, what it is being successful. I’m not saying they were bad parents because I think they did a wonderful job with me, but the first working portion of my life I was chasing the big car, chasing the big bank account, and chasing the beautiful wife. The one thing I can say about my mom that I am infinitely in debt to her about is she kept us in church. Why am I saying this, going to church taught me what true success is.
So what is TRUE success? I like the way Charles Stanley defined success……”Success is a continuing achievement of becoming the person God wants you to be and accomplishing the goals He has helped you set.” Now does that sound better to you than the world definition or does it sounds like I’m just trying to be religious? That’s the question you must ask yourself because this will help you to see why you are doing what you doing. Why do you tolerate the stuff you go through on a daily basis like sitting in traffic for two hours a day for a paycheck? Are we chasing a paycheck or are you doing this because you have a God given goal in mind to accomplish. I know one of my biggest God given goals is to become debt free. Being in debt is like being in prison. You are slave to a job or business to do what, pay your debt off. Whether it is your mortgage or credit card, we are working to payoff debt. Debt is an enemy and if we are not careful, that enemy will enslave us for the rest of our lives. But God wants us to be debt free. The Bible says, “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.” Romans 13:8. God wants us to be successful in the area of our finances, but without using His principles we will be unsuccessful in this.
There are people who live their lives without God. From the world’s perspective, they appear successful. But if we could peel the layers of their lives away, we would find emptiness, heartache, and disappointment. And while even believers struggle with these same feelings and emotions, we know that we have an eternal source of strength and hope living within us. You may have an earthly fortune, but it won’t survive your death. When you leave this world, you will leave everything behind so let that not be your main focus in life. Let your focus become being who God wants you to be and allow Him to give you a new road map to discover the road to true success. I love you and I beat you to it.
